Women’s History Month reminds us that while significant progress has been made, the underrepresentation of women in many STEM fields remains a persistent challenge.

According to the WomenTech Network (2024), women earned approximately 21.3% of bachelor’s degrees in computer and information sciences in the United States in 2024. At Women in Technology (WIT), we’re not merely celebrating achievements; we’re actively ensuring every girl and woman has the opportunity to excel in these fields.

Programmes for women and mothers

Through programmes like WIT Girls, WIT Campus, WIT YoPros and Technology Uncorked (for women leaders), we inspire young girls to envision themselves as engineers and scientists. We also support women throughout their careers, fostering the next generation of leaders.

A standout initiative is the Single Mothers Program (SMP). This provides single mothers with the training, mentorship and support they need to start new careers in technology. The SMP focuses not only on technical skills but also on building confidence and empowering women to create better lives for themselves and their families.

WIT is about creating a future
where women in STEM are not
the exception, but the rule.

Transforming lives through tech

As a graduate of the SMP, I can attest to its transformative impact. Joining the programme as a new mother, I felt uncertain about my future in tech. WIT provided me with more than just the tools to succeed — it offered a supportive community, renewed my sense of purpose and even helped propel me to write a book on cybersecurity awareness for families.

The skills and confidence I gained through the process led me to create something that could help protect children online, especially in a world where parents often struggle to keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Enabling women and girls to lead

WIT is about creating a future where women in STEM are not the exception, but the rule. It’s a future where girls dream big, women lead, and technology is shaped by diverse voices.

This Women’s History Month, join us in supporting this mission and empowering women to become the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can ensure every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.
