David Beckham is known across the world for his sporting achievements, having played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and the English national team – among others. He’s become a global superstar and often uses his fame to help charities make a difference.
His work has helped numerous people across the world, raising money and increasing awareness for the likes of UNICEF, Save The Children, and Malaria No More.
The former England football captain faced several tense moments in his career and was used to dealing with pressure-fuelled situations.
But when he entered a glass box and was suddenly swarmed by 10,000 mosquitos, he wasn’t doing so for any sporting reason.
Beckham was doing his part to help in the fight against Malaria – filming the video as part of the global campaign called Malaria Must Die. The video, below, was launched by Malaria No More UK, of which Beckham is a founding member of its UK Leadership Council.
“I’ve supported the malaria fight for over 15 years and it’s been exciting to see the progress made to save lives, including millions of young children,” Beckham said.
Tragically, an estimated 445,000 deaths occur because of malaria every year, and Beckham is seeking to help continue the fight against the disease.
“As the mosquito film shows, these insects are annoying in places like the UK but in many parts of the world, a mosquito bite is terrifying and deadly, leading to malaria and the loss of a child’s life every two minutes.
“This is totally unacceptable, especially when we know how to prevent and cure it.”
